Metabolism of a bacterium

The metabolism of a bacterium corresponds to all the chemical reactions that happen in the bacterial cell. Energy is needed to realise this metabolism. The energy used in the cell is called ATP (Adenosin Triphosphate). Bacteria possess different methods to gain energy :

- Photosynthesis

- Chemosynthesis

- Energy coming from others chemical reactions that use organic matter.

Bacteria are classified according to the metabolism used, depending on the source of carbon and energy used for their growing.
