Different metabolisms of bacteria

Autotrophy and heterotrophy

There exists two types of metabolisms : autotrophy and heterotrophy
Autotrophy is the capacity that some living beings possess to produce their own organic matter. They use energy and mineral matter (as CO2).
There are two kinds of autotrophic bacteria : photolithotrophs and chimiolithotrophs
Photolithitrophs need solar energy (eg cyanobacteria), while chimiolithotrophs need chemical energy (eg methanogenic bacteria).

Heterotrophy is the capacity that some living beings possess to produce their own organic matter with those of other livings beings. They use energy, organic and mineral matters.
There are two types of heterotrophs : photoorganotrophs and chimioorganotrophs.
Photoorganotrophs use solar energy (eg  athiorhodaciums), while chimioorganotrophs need chemical energy (eg dinoflagellates).
